EDITORS TO HEADLINE SATURDAY AT ROCK WERCHTER!
The line-up of Rock Werchter 2012 is again top class. Today, seven more names have been added. Headlining on Saturday are EDITORS. The Britons are celebrating their tenth birthday this year. And the honour is almost exclusively for Werchter, since they have only scheduled one more summer festival gig, in Arras, France. Werchter has always been extremely important to them and still has enormous symbolic meaning. Editors = Werchter. In 2008, they played the 1000th show in the history of the festival. On the very festival ground, ‘No Sound But The Wind’ became an instant hit in 2010, thanks to an avid fan from Bruges. Editors were discovered here in a very early stage, and gradually they were given the opportunity to evolve into a headlining act. This is the model Rock Werchter has been built on.
Right before Editors, THE XX will play the Main Stage. The Londoners prove the fact that young people keep re-inventing pop music again and again. It earned them a Mercury Award for their debut ‘xx’ in 2009. Some new work, which is rumoured to be more dance-oriented, is in the making! ‘T HOF VAN COMMERCE will open the main Werchter stage on Saturday. After a long hiatus, ’t Hof Van Commerce are once again widely available. At last, we’re in for some fresh unintelligible cheerfulness. At last, some new and interesting additions to our daily language
The Main Stage line-up is complete by the way. Have been added on Thursday: WITHIN TEMPTATION. Their latest album, ‘The Unforgiving’ (2011), entered the charts in the top 10 in eight European countries. Metal of honour! One of the main reasons is probably Sharon den Adel’s angelic voice. She made sure the fairy-tale metal of the six-piece from the south of the Netherlands became a chart and live phenomenon. THE HICKEY UNDERWORLD will do the honours on Sunday. They are today’s most exciting Belgian rock band! Their latest ‘I’m Under The House I’m Dying’ (2012) is digging even deeper into the tracks of Millionaire, My Bloody Valentine and Tool.
Two new names for the other Rock-Werchter stages. For the first time from South Africa: DIE ANTWOORD! They are like from another planet. That’s what Die Antwoord’s Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja, a ‘fre$, futuristik zef rap-rave krew’ from Johannesburg, look and sound like. The two are forerunners of the freaky underbelly of white post-apartheid culture in South Africa. Bling, fat, weird. They will definitely not go by unnoticed in the Pyramid Marquee on Sunday. Australia’s THE TEMPER TRAP will play the third stage on Friday, June 29. Their ‘Sweet Disposition’ was one of the biggest ear worms of 2009. After one and a half years of touring, the time had come to start working on a new album, which is due right before Werchter. More names for the Pyramid Marquee and our new third stage will be announced soon!
