FIVE NEW NAMES & THE BELGIANS ARE COMING TO PUKKELPOP!
Santigold is coming to Pukkelpop on Thursday 16th August. On her new album she has again succeeded in conjuring up a very refreshing cocktail of hip hop, punk, electro, and reggae. Coldplay, Beastie Boys, Jay-Z and Basement JaXX, great fans of hers, have asked her to join them on their tours. If Santigold is hot, what other word we could use to describe her dancers.
Let the drums roll and the guitars howl! Baroness is coming to Pukkelpop too. Together with Mastodon, this terrific band have added a fresh new sound to metal. Their previous album, The Blue Record, scored high on the metal end-of-year lists. They will present their long-expected new record on Friday 17th August. On Saturday you can find Diplo protégé Dillon Francis in the Boiler Room. He is one of the talented new names in the influential Moombathon genre. And Pukkelpop wouldn’t be Pukkelpop if we hadn’t gone looking for new indie bands in the dark alleys. On Saturday 18th August you will be able to meet our latest discovery, Light Asylum, the 2012 version of Grace Jones. Time to switch on the neon lights. If you like Beach House and Deerhunter, you will certainly appreciate the sound of Lower Dens. As always Pukkelpop offers you the opportunity to explore new bands and new sounds. Get ready for the 2012 expedition.
It’s highly unlikely they will ever be asked to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Festival. To play a slot at Pukkelpop on the other hand…..The Belgians are coming!
On Thursday Zornik will kick off the show with a few well-aimed guitar riffs. On Saturday Balthazar, The Van Jets and Freaky Age will premiere some of their new material. Other bands that won’t shy away from knocking their audience sideways: Steak Number Eight, Wallace Vanborn, Drive Like Maria and Diablo Blvd. Bands such as Isbells, Amatorski, The Me In You, Mad About Mountains and Flying Horseman prefer a more subdued sound, often with a jagged edge.
In the category ‘classics’ organisers present Vive La Fête, De Mens and Gorki. SX, Bed Rugs, Marco Z, Great Mountain Fire and Geppetto & The Whales on the other hand represent the future.
Other bands whose music you can enjoy to the full are Customs, Fence, Creature With The Atom Brain, Merdan Taplak, Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat, Reiziger and COEM. The Boiler Room will be opened with tricoloured pride by Raving George, Ego Troopers a.o. and in the Dance Hall Sound Of Stereo will play live for the first time at Pukkelpop.
A large selection of authentic sounds from our country’s rich musical landscape to look forward to this year.
