The Sonisphere Festival is a series of summer music festivals which took place across Europe in June 2009. The festival is owned and promoted by Kilimanjaro Live with financial backing from AEG
The 2009 Sonisphere festival tour was made up of six one day festivals across Europe with a final festival in England spanning two days. The festival had a core group of bands that will play each of the 6 dates with numerous extra bands added to each date individually. The locations for the 2009 festivals include Goffert Park, Nijmegen, the Netherlands; Hockenheimring, Germany; The Forum, Barcelona, Spain; Folkets Park, Hultsfred, Sweden; Kirjurinluoto, Pori, Finland, and Knebworth House, Knebworth, England. Metallica were the main headliners for each of the 2009 Sonisphere Festivals
The first Spanish edition of the Sonisphere Festival took place on Saturday July 11, 2009 at The Forum, Barcelona with headliners Metallica supported by Slipknot, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Down, Machine Head, Soziedad Alkohólika, Gojira.

The festival will took place on the 9th and 10th July in Getafe Open-Air, a new campus of 50,000 square meters located in Getafe, a few meters from Cerro de los Angeles, a fantastic green area with trees where the zone will be located camping for festival attendees.
After bringing together more than 300,000 people in six European editions that were held last summer in Holland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, UK and Spain and after taking the award for “Best New Festival ‘in the UK Festival Awards 2009.
