Bjork cancels festival showsFollowing on from earlier reports that Bjork had cancelled all her festival shows in June and July, we can now update you on the situation.

Bjork has cancelled appearances at the Primavera festivals in Spain and Portugal but she will still be performing at Open’er in Poland, Øya festival in Norway and Roskilde in Denmark!

Bjork has posted the following statement on her Facebook,

“hi folks

I am sorry to announce I will not be able to play Primavera Sound (Spain), Optimus Primavera Sound (Portugal), Balaton Sound (Hungary) and Afisha Picnic (Russia) 2012 .

After 2 weeks of voice rest i went to my vocal doctor and she came to this conclusion : I need to rest for 6 more weeks . the good news is that we both feel pretty confident I can start singing fully healed in the middle of June.

In the beginning of Biophilia, we estimated that doing 3 residencies a year with couple of months between would be a rhythm my chords could take . then i got overexcited and when we threw the festivals into the mix and only leaving 2 weeks between New York shows and South America was too eager beaver … the drop that filled the meter …

I am very sorry and embarrassed about having to cancel things and having promised things and then not being able to keep my word, truly breaks my heart. Especially to people who have already bought tickets.

Meanwhile Biophilia has become its own feisty plant growing all different directions . and it isnt all bad . it has a lot of fun sides like for example the educational angle : Reykjavík’s and Buenos Aires city school curriculums have now embraced Biophilia educational program into their schools and we are partnering with the New York public library and the Children’s Museum of Manhattan to launch biophilia as learning resource for New York’s children in July 2012.

But in the meantime, I will rest and reschedule and make a promise to my chords and especially those who want to listen to them that even though my mind and my intention gets overexcited and runs ahead , I will from now on allow breaks between “legs” of tours to reassemble …

because like that I can give better

    warmth, Björk.”

This July in Gdynia, the duo THE KILLS will play in Poland for the first time. Alison Mosshart visited Open’er two years ago with The Dead Wheather, yet this time, she’ll perform with her main act, also featuring Jamie Hince. The couple released 4 albums for Domino Records. The last one, “Blood Pressures”, came out exactly one year ago. Over nearly a decade, their music went through different phases. It was raw and garage, like their debut “Keep On Your Mean Side”, post-punk on ”No Wow”, to finally set towards contemporary production on “Midnight Boom”, which contained the most hit singles in their career so far.

Also enjoying their hit with single “Midnight City”, M83 will come back to Heineken Open’er Festival after 3 years. “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” is their 6th studio album. Even now, they have warm memories of welcome by Polish audience. It won’t be different now, especially when M83 became a highlight of end-of-the-year listings.

A fictional superhero from Jamaica and a moniker for two great producers – MAJOR LAZER is another artist to appear on World Stage. Diplo and Switch, who produced M.I.A. and Santigold’s best singles, bring their new record to Gdynia.

And finally, DRY THE RIVER, a London band who debuted a few days ago with “Shallow Bed”. The biggest labels fought to sign them up. No wonder, since indie folk is in again, and Dry the River play it so passionately it is hard to pass them by. In a couple of months, they’ll probably be as big as Mumford & Sons.

e-tainmentnews european festival blog logoBLACK SABBATH WILL ONLY PLAY ONE FESTIVAL SHOW THIS SUMMER

Unfortunately due to Tony Iommi’s ongoing treatment Black Sabbath have cancelled all but one of their European festival / tour dates.  They will be playing Download Festival on June the 10th with the rest of the shows being billed as OZZY & FRIENDS so not to let the fans down.

See the official press release:

BLACK SABBATH – who late last year confirmed the recording of their first new album in more than 33 years and a worldwide headlining tour, have had to put some plans on hold due to Tony Iommi’s battle with lymphoma. At this time, BLACK SABBATH will perform only one show of this summer’s previously scheduled European tour. It will take place Sunday, June 10th at the U.K.’s Download Festival.

So as not to let the promoters and fans down, OZZY OSBOURNE will now perform the majority of the previously scheduled BLACK SABBATH dates (both festival performances and the headlining shows) billed as OZZY & FRIENDS. These “first ever” OZZY & FRIENDS shows will feature appearances by “special guest” musicians including GEEZER BUTLER (who will join Ozzy for a special BLACK SABBATH set as a show of respect and support to their friend, Tony Iommi) and longtime former OZZY band member Zakk Wylde. In addition, OZZY will be accompanied by longtime collaborator and friend Slash at select shows, with other “special guests” set to join the tour at various stops along the way (full list of dates, appearances below).

Tony Iommi continues to make excellent progress and is looking forward to getting back out on the road. Meanwhile, BLACK SABBATH continue to write and record music in the U.K. for their upcoming album. More information about these dates and BLACK SABBATH’s recording and touring plans is forthcoming.

The tour now looks like this:

The British band The Kooks are the latest confirmation for Optimus Alive’12 where they will play their new album, “Junk of the Heart”, released in September last year.

Coming from Brighton, the Kooks wasted no time making their mark in music history and just the first long-term, “Inside In / Inside Out” (2006), conquered the world. The album would achieve 4 times Platinum, only in the UK, and earned them the MTV European Award for “Best UK & Ireland Act,” plus a nomination for the Brit Awards.

It took only two years for the second album, “Konk”, which thanks to singles like “Always Where I Need to Be,” “Shine On” and “Sway”, went straight to first place in top UK sales. In September last year, released “Junk Of Hearts”, the third album of originals, which will form the basis for action in the promenade of Boksburg, 15th July.

Optimus Alive’12 organisers are also proud to introduce for the first time live in Portugal, one of the most important bands to emerge in recent years, the British band Mumford & Sons, who play on the 14th July.

Coming from the so-called “West London Folk Scene”, Mumford & Sons released their debut album in late 2009, “Sigh No More.” The album and the band gained a reputation throughout 2010, through intense touring and singles “Little Lion Man”, “Winter Winds” and “The Cave”.

After a year, Mumford & Sons were already regarded as one of the best British bands live and have raised important prizes: a Brit Award, three Billboard Music Awards and a Q Award, among others. Despite having only one album, also received six Grammy nominations.
